"Women hold up half the sky" - Chinese Proverb

The book I would like to share with all of you this month is called Half the Sky written by Nicholas Kristof & Cheryl Wudunn. This couple are actually journalists who have covered stories worldwide.

This book is a must-read for everyone. It shares candid stories of women all over the world and the difficulties that are faced by them. Prostitution, Sex-trafficking, Rape, War, Childbirth , Education - and how you can help. By reading you can understand a little bit more of how people are living in countries like India, Pakistan, Africa..makes you feel really blessed and fortunate. Most importantly, it makes me realise I should do something to help these women, and not just by donating.

Sure the world is free from slavery, but these women are still tied down as 2nd class citizens; the book calls them the 21st century slaves. Unable to have a say in anything decisions, forced to do what their husbands/societies ask them to, it's really heartbreaking. But this is the reality.

They also share about women who stepped up and spoke out. These amazing women have helped a lot of the women in their community. Truly inspiring to see that they understand that they are allowed to have dreams, and it can become a reality.

The authors also explain how women play an important role in the world's economy. Without them involved, the whole world will be affected.

Please read this book and see how you can help them.

Hi Mariposa! Usually I don't pay much attention to books by journalists (in particular, when they start writing novels...), but this might be different... ;)

Blogtrotter Two is strolling in Southern France amidst the best of the perfumes... Enjoy and have a great week!!
