Come Read With Me (February)

Image
I've got 4 books to share with you for February :) First would be a book given to me by Mariposi (aka Gavin) for my birthday. Was so thoughtful of you! Thank goodness he gave me the English version as I do not think I would be able to tackle the original version (which is in Spanish) as my vocabulary in Spanish is abysmal at this moment. The cover of the book pretty much sums up the story - A novel in monthly instalments with recipes, romances and home remedies. The story is set in a ranch in Mexico. A boy resorted to marry the sister of his girlfriend just so he could be close to her as she was destined to take care of her mother till her mother dies as she was the youngest of the family. I love the way Laura writes and she incorporates a lot of recipes in between the main plot. I just watched the movie (no subtitles!) and it was a good thing I read the book beforehand or else I might have gotten a little lost. They followed the book 100% and it was really good :) For more informa

Movie Maniac

Taking advantage of a longer weekend, I actually watched 4 movies in a span of 5 days! Here are my reviews: First one was Percy Jackson. It's a book series from Rick Riodan. A friend of mine recommended the books a week ago. There are 5 books in total and the first book is Percy Jackson & the Olympians - The Lighting Thief. A movie was made based on the book. I liked it that they simplified the plot and I really enjoyed it. Movies can never be better than books but it was a fun watch nonetheless. :) Second movie I watched was Valentine's Day. It was light and easy to watch. It portrays how Love is for people of different ages. oh there are lots of big names in it too. We had no choice to watch this one as the line at the cinema was soooo long and most movies were sold out. My advice is not to watch this movie. It's so straightforward. Man ets bitten by a creature and changes into the beast himself every full moon and runs amok killing people and in the ends dies by the

Come Read With Me (January)

Just something I've decided to do for year 2010. I realised that I've sometimes abandoned what I loved to do most due to other daily commitments - read. So this year I have told myself to read at least one book a month. I barely made the deadline for January. I finished reading the book on the 31st! The book I'm talking about is Anne Frank - the diary of a young girl. I've read 2 versions of this book 13 years ago in school. I must say the latest version I read would be the best one. This book is a journal written by a Jew living in the Netherlands during the Holocaust. She writes about her life living in hiding for 24months. The ones I read previously was quite simplified and didn't show much of her emotions deeply. It was very light. Whereas for this book, it truly showed how depressed Anne was during her time in the Secret Annex. It also showed what strong individual views she had and how she struggled to keep her opinions to herself to avoid conflict. She som
