Come Read With Me (August)
Here's my monthly installment :)
The first book I read in August was yet another one of Anita Blake series - this is the 6th book of the series. I didn't really enjoy it, it just got too twisted for me (vampire and werewolf lusting after the same woman). I read it gets more confusing in further books, so I'm giving this series a break for a while. You can read about the plot here: Wiki
Second one I read was Stephen Clarke's A Year in the Merde. It's an account of an Englishman staying in France for a year. I enjoyed it thoroughly..and learnt some interesting French facts :) I thought the way he writes is very witty and he injects humour and sarcasm at the right spots. He covers language (how the French speak English, and how he speaks French), getting an accommodation (his apartment hunting stories are funny), how the French take their cuisine seriously to finding love to ways on how he evaded dog poop (top notch method!). I might consider reading his Merde series for laughs. More info: Wiki

Here's me reading during my holiday
The focus on these 4 books was on Ceberus - the 3-headed hell hound. (Hence the main book title) It's interesting how 4 authors incorporate the dog into their stories. Some made it evil, some made it good; regardless if the dog was the main focus or otherwise. The one I enjoyed the most was the one written by Meljean Brook - Blind Spot. There was one character who is born blind, but is able to see through other people/animals' eyes. That one was interesting.
Out of the 4 authors (Charlaine Harris, Nalini Singh, Ilona Andrews and Meljean Brook), I've only read Harris' works before (Sookie Stackhouse series - now the big telly hit series - Trueblood). The story was a bit abrupt, but the 2 characters in it are also featured in her Sookie Stackhouse books.
*edited* This is a book that I just finished reading. It follows Sookie Stackhouse(the main character of this series) to the Vampire summit where she will need to use her talent to solve yet another mystery/murder. It wasn't that bad. Harris did a good job in evolving Sookie's character from book #1 till now. She also introduced 2 characters that she used in her short story in Must Love Hellhounds here. Gonna start reading Book #8 soon :)
Must Love Hell Hounds. It's actually a compilation of 4 short stories, written by 4 different authors that specialize in this genre (paranormal, supernatural - vampires, werewolf, underworld .. you get the drift).

All these 4 books have a female lead in it and you.would.not.want.to.mess.with.them. They will kick your butt. (the amount of ammo they have, it's ridiculous). Here's to Girl Power. hehe

Year in the Merde was a good break for me from the paranormal books that I've been reading. I'm going to try to infuse other genres with the paranormal for September again. Till then :)

About movies, I've discovered some weeks ago "Relative Values" (year 2000), with Julie Andrews. It's a film adaptation of the 1950s play by Noel Coward. The movie is amusing, fluid, witty, with interesting characters, maybe a bit caricatural.
Happy week!
