Colours of Malaysia

Last Saturday, Summerhope and I went out shopping for..BANGLES (well Summer wanted to get them, I just tagged along =P ) Off we went shopping, then we ended up at Little India..Over there, there was also a "Pasar Ramadhan" aka Ramadhan Market going on. During the month of Ramadhan, the Muslims fast and during this month there's this thing called the Ramadhan Market - rows and rows of stalls selling all sorts of food. Most common dishes you will find will be the chicken rice, roasted chicken (all sorts of varieties - marinated, blak pepper, honey, etc..) and savoury cakes. I did not manage to capture any photos on that day; however, I did get some pics yesterday (it's everywhere!)

Note the Spanish colour there? heheheh I purposely took that pic!

Buying foodstuff to break fast

Okay..back to Little India..well I would say Miss Summer was spoilt for choice of bangles there!!

She was having a dilemma on which ones to buy..they're all so colourful!

Typical shop lot in Market Street

Olden days barber shops are still around, although now they've upgraded themselves (A/C included and all)

Summer calls this the "Jesus Street" - it's actually a music shop - they sell all sorts of music there, and I suppose religious music included. It was a bit intimidating walking down these streets sometimes as they have these sales people shoving pamplets at your face. But it's not too bad if you decline and walk away real fast!

When it got darker, we walked across some streets to have a look at the lantern competition in conjunction of the Mid-Autumn Festival aka the Moon Festival the Chinese celebrate. Credit goes to Summer for taking these photos.

Really cute lantern

Some of the lanterns which competed

I liked this one - there was a dragon revolving inside the lantern.

This was very creative too, and the presentation looked sharp.

Owl lanterns, geared with bird-chirping sound effects. Just realised, owls HOOT not chirp!!

See how big they are

I like this lion..looks so cute!!

All in all, if you come to Penang - you get a taste of Malaysia at one go. We're a great big melting pot of culture and fun =D

Hi Mariposa! After a short break but a long absence I’m finally back to the blogosphere and found some time to enjoy your excellent blog…
Loved to see the lanterns, and I'm sure you had a great time during the festival. Even with the sellers and the pamphlets making you walk fast... ;)
Thanks for the cumpleaños, even if not intended; 09.09 is also mine... ;))
Now, Salamanca! Great shot, and close to Lisbon; you'd better start packing... ;)
